Tlemcen, “the town of cherries”, was once one of the most powerful cities in the Maghreb. Tlemcen’s Grand Mosque remains one of North Africa’s most significant Islamic landmarks – surpassed in beauty, however, by the nearby mosque and tomb of Sidi Boumediene, leader of a 12th century Sufi circle.
